Mission and Purpose

Our mission is to support HPMAA alumni and students.

The purposes for which this Association is formed are:

  • To support the students, faculty, and Department of Health Policy and Management, School of Public Health and the University of California, Los Angeles through financial support, mentoring relationships, events, and other means both individually and collectively; and

  • To support and advance the alumni network, including fostering communication and relationships among alumni and providing opportunities for alumni to engage and network with the Association and each other; and

  • To conduct fundraising activities to provide financial support for the program, the students, and the alumni network.

President's Welcome

Nine years ago, when I graduated from the HPM program, I made it a goal to one day be on the board of directors of the Health Policy and Management Alumni Association (HPMAA). As a student, the organization had given me so much opportunity and exposure; I promised myself that one day I would pay this forward. Today, I am honored and thrilled to serve in the role of President during the 2018-2019 academic year.

This year our focus as a board has been to reconnect with our alumni and build an organization that fosters the development of HPM graduates and provides a community at all stages of one's career. As such, my highest priority as President is to seek to understand what our alumni want to see from HPMAA and build our community around that feedback.

The board of directors is excited about the opportunity to form deeper connections with our alumni and students. We're looking forward to planning a spring event, the annual HPMAA dinner, and sharing the stories of our HPMAA community.

We want to thank alumni who provided input to the survey we issued in the Winter. We are in the process of analyzing those results but welcome anecdotal comments or ideas throughout the year.

HPMAA is incredibly thankful for the ongoing support of our alumni and sponsors. It is because of their support that we can provide scholarships to students. We hope to continue with this tradition with the ability to affect more students with awards in the future.

Finally, I would like to thank my board of directors along with the HPM faculty and FSPH employees that provide support to our group on a regular basis. Your continued partnership is a contributing factor to our growth and success.

Best regards,
Laura Barrera
